Very often the difference between solitude and loneliness is whether or not you have someone who is thinking of you while you are alone.
That's a fairly profound bit of reality. It reminds me of something which Rilke wrote - along the lines of two people being "guardians of each other's solitude".The difference between loneliness and solitude is really well captured in that quote you posted.
